About Us — Shanti Space Yoga

Hi, we’re Shanti Space

We named this place Shanti — the Sanskrit word for peace — because that’s really the whole point. Not perfect poses, not personal bests, just a bit of peace in the middle of a busy week.

If you’ve never stepped onto a mat before, that’s fine. If you’ve been practicing for fifteen years, that’s fine too. We built this studio for people, not for yoga résumés.

How it started

A handful of us used to practice together in a friend’s living room, honestly, because we couldn’t find a studio nearby that didn’t feel like a competition. Everyone seemed to be trying to out-bend each other. It wasn’t relaxing, it was exhausting.

So we started Shanti Space with the opposite idea in mind. No mirrors to compare yourself in. No judgment if your child’s pose lasts the whole class. Just a room, some good light, and people trying to breathe a little easier than they did yesterday.

It’s grown since then — more teachers, more classes, more familiar faces at the front desk — but the feeling hasn’t changed.

What we actually believe

We’re not going to pretend yoga fixes everything. But we’ve seen what it does over time: people sleep better, argue less, stand a little taller. That’s worth showing up for.

A few things we try to live by:

Your body knows more than we do. We’ll guide you, but you’re the one who decides what a pose should feel like today.

Everyone’s welcome, and we mean it. Different bodies, different ages, different reasons for walking in the door — all of it belongs here.

Slow is still progress. We’d rather you leave calmer than leave sore.

Our teacher

Our instructor didn’t all come up the same way — trained in classical Hatha for years, found her way in through dance or physical therapy or just a really hard year that yoga helped her through. What she share is that she actually pay attention to the people in the room. If something’s not working for your knees or your back, tell her. She’ll adjust the pose, not just tell you to push through it.

Why people stick around

Honestly? Mostly word of mouth. But if you’re wondering what to expect:

  • A studio that’s quiet, warm, and not trying too hard to look “zen”
  • Classes ranging from total-beginner slow flow to sweatier vinyasa sessions
  • Instructors who know your name after a couple of visits
  • No pressure to buy a package, wear the right leggings, or perform peace
  • A community that tends to check in on each other outside of class too

Come find out for yourself

We could keep describing it, but yoga’s one of those things that’s better felt than read about. Come to a class. Sit at the back if you want. Leave whenever you need to.

We’ll be here either way.
